“The CPVO has just entered into its 19th year of existence and it can be concluded that there have been important developments and progress since the Office opened its doors in Rue de la Loi in Brussels in 1995. I will save the historical review until the celebration of the 20th birthday of the Office but it suffices to say that the idea of giving an EU agency the task of administering EU-wide plant variety rights whilst maintaining the technical work at authorities and other bodies in Member States has proved to be very successful.[...]
