Seminar on the Enforcement of Plant Variety Rights

Zagreb, Croatia, 5 June 2014

Breeders are facing difficulties when enforcing their Community and national plant variety rights (PVRs). An important reason for this phenomenon is the insufficient knowledge of the applicable legislation amongst breeders, lawyers, prosecutors and judges.

For this reason, the Community Plant Variety Office, in close co-operation with the breeders’ organizations, decided to organize seminars on the enforcement of Plant Variety Rights in Brussels (2005), Warsaw (2006), Madrid (2007), Romania and Bulgaria (2008), Athens (2010), Hamburg (2011) and Rome (2013).

As a follow-up, a seminar is now organized in Zagreb (Croatia) on 5 June 2014 in cooperation with the Croatian Ministry of Agriculture and breeders organizations.

This seminar aims at sharing information and experience relating to the enforcement of plant variety rights in Croatia, Serbia, Hungary, Slovenia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Who should attend?

This seminar is designed for all intellectual property practitioners specialized in plant variety protection, in particular:

> Breeders and representatives of the breeders’ organizations

> Seed producers

> Growers and propagators

> Farmers

> Lawyers

> Judges

> Officials responsible for legislation on the enforcement of plant variety rights

> Representatives from examinations offices

> Representatives of associations active in agriculture and horticulture

> Persons involved in the trade of plant varieties

The Seminar will be held in English and Croatian.
